Ideas

Africa does not need another diagnosis of its problems.

It needs better answers.

DWM’s ideas work starts with the same question that drives our businesses: What will make Africa competitive?

We are interested in the things that materially change the answer.

  • Why is capital more expensive in Africa?

  • Why is electricity unreliable or expensive when the continent possesses enormous energy resources?

  • What stops African businesses trading efficiently with each other and the world?

  • What makes some institutions work and others fail?

  • How do we create more entrepreneurs rather than simply more graduates?

  • What can Africa learn from Asia, and what should it refuse to copy?

  • How can technology remove rather than add friction?

These questions lead us into capital markets, energy, trade, regulation, governance, banking, entrepreneurship and technology.

We publish what we learn.
We convene people who know more than we do.
And when an idea can become something practical, we try to build it.

Latest thinking.

The first papers and articles are being prepared. Published work will appear here.
